The Allen-Bradley 1756-IF6CIS is an analog I/O module that has an input range of 0 to 20 mA. This module is used in a ControlLogix system. And functions as a sourcing current loop input module. It has Six (6) individually isolated current sourcing inputs with resolution is 16 bits or 0.34 µA/bit. It offers an internal power source for each channel but the current is limited to 28 mA. The 1756-IF6CIS requires a Removable Terminal Block (RTB) with compatible part numbers 1756-TBCH or 1756-TBS6H and this module only operates in current mode. To maximize the module’s operation, the user-supplied power supply must not exceed 150VA. The specified isolation voltage must not exceed the given range when using separate power sources. Also, never connect more than two wires in a single terminal. This module has an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) filter that removes line noise in your application in every channel. Make sure to choose the notch filter that is the closest match to the anticipated noise frequency in your application, as each filter time affects the response time of your module. The 1756-IF6CIS also has a real-time sampling (RTS) feature that instructs the module to scan its input channels and obtain all available data that the module will multicast. The RTS period and requested packet interval (RPI) period must first be configured. It also has an under-range/over-range detection feature that alerts operators when the isolated input module operates beyond the limits set by the input range. The module’s nominal input range is from 0 to 20 mA, with the lowest signal in range at 0 and the highest at 21. 09376 mA. Process alarms are also configurable. When the module exceeds the high or low limits configured in each channel, the specific alarm will be triggered. It also has a rate alarm that will be triggered when the rate of change between input samples for every channel exceeds the specific trigger point for that channel. A wire off detection feature is also available for this module. This informs the system when either a wire has been removed from one of its channels or the RTB has been disconnected from the module.

The 1756-IF6CIS **has a digital filter that smoothens input data noise transients. This feature is only available in applications that use the floating-point mode.

The Allen-Bradley 1756-IF6CIS is a ControlLogix Six (6) channel Current Sourcing module. This module receives an input signal range of 0 to 20 mA. Each channel of this module has an isolated power source, limited to 28 mA. It may be used to supply power to a Two-wire transmitter which eliminates the need of an external or loop power supply. This module also supports instrument or control loop that is powered by an external power supply even transmitters that have 4-Wire configuration.

This module converts the receive analog signal via Sigma-Delta conversion method. Data conversion has a resolution of 16 bits or 0.34 µA/bit. The converted data may be saved in Integer mode (left justified, 2 s complement) or IEEE 32-bit floating point data format.

Analog signals are typically provided by instruments that measure Process Variables (PV) such as Pressure, Level, Temperature, Flow, Speed, % Travel, Viscosity, Turbidity, Vibration and many other variables. The instruments that measure such variables sends a signal that is proportional or linear to the measuring range it is configured to measure. The Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) such as the ControlLogix system receives the signal through any compatible analog input module such as the 1756-IF6CIS. Further processing such as analog to Digital conversion, arithmetic and scaling instructions are used to make the signal understandable by the process and the PLC. It may be used as data mapping point of Human Machine Interface (HMI), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems as well as reference of control algorithms such as Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller or other automatic control systems.**
