About 1756-IR6I

The Allen-Bradley 1756-IR6I is a temperature-measuring analog module. This is an analog RTD and Thermocouple module that is compatible with the ControlLogix system.  For the 1756-IR6I module, you can choose among two data formats and these are the integer mode and the floating point mode. When choosing the integer mode, the module has the following available features you can use: multiple input ranges, notch filter, and real-time sampling. The floating mode also has all of these features, plus temperature linearization, process alarms, rate alarms, and digital filtering. You can also choose which temperature unit to use - either in Celsius or Fahrenheit. This module has four possible input ranges for you to choose from: 1 to 487 Ω, 2 to 1000 Ω, 4 to 2000 Ω, and 8 to 4000 Ω. These ranges designate the minimum and maximum signals detectable by the module. It has 6 individually isolated RTD inputs and a resolution of 16 bits and the following ranges per bit: between 1 to 487 Ω, it is 7.7 mΩ/bit, between 2 to 1000 Ω, it is 15 mΩ/bit, between 4 to 2000 Ω, it is 30 mΩ/bit, and between 8 to 4020 Ω, it is 60 mΩ/bit. The module's notch filter lets you remove the line noise in your application for each channel via the analog-to-digital converter (ADC). Make sure to choose the filter that closely matches the application's anticipated noise frequency. The digital filter smoothens out the data noise transients on each input channel.

The 1756-IR6I's real-time sampling feature lets the module multicast data it gathered from scanning all of its input channels. Before multicasting data, make sure that you have configured a real-time sampling (RTS) period and a requested packet interval (RPI) period. An under-range/over-range detection feature of the module informs you when the temperature measuring input module begins operating beyond the limits set by the input range. The process alarms work similarly but it alerts you when the module has exceeded the set high or low limits in each channel. This is also the same with the rate alarm, but the latter is triggered when the rate of change between input samples for each channel exceeds the specified trigger point. However, the rate alarm is only available in applications using floating point. A wire off detection feature is also present and this goes off when a wire has been disconnected from the module. Small offset errors in a 10-ohm copper RTD can be compensated with the 10 ohms offset feature of the module. Sensor types can also be configured for each channel in the module. This linearizes the analog signal into a temperature value. The module's cold junction compensation feature lets you compensate the input signal from your module because of the thermoelectric effect that affects the input signal.
