The Allen-Bradley Logix5550 is a processor module in the ControlLogix series of controllers with part number 1756-L1 (Series A). It has 64 KB of user memory and multiple controllers can be installed in one ControlLogix chassis, or one controller can be installed in any slot on a ControlLogix chassis. The memory can be expanded to up to 2 MB with additional memory modules. The Logix5550 has a continuous isolation voltage of 30 V and a maximum power dissipation of 6.19 W. It has a backplane current of 1.2 A at 5V and 2.5 mA at 24V. The Logix5550 has a Logix CPU and a backplane CPU to divide its resources between them. The 1756-CP3 serial cable is used to connect the controller to the workstation. For communication with other devices, it uses various networks like Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, etc. It can produce (broadcast) and consume (receive) system-shared tags over EtherNet/IP or ControlNet networks. The Logix5550 controller has a multitasking feature which lets processing time be allocated to different operations in the application. It also contains programs for group data and logic data. It provides routines to encapsulate executable code in a single programming language. The Logix5550 supports Logix5000 programming languages both online and offline. In case of any I/O communication failure, it has an I/O LED that flashes green. It also contains a fault handler for diagnostics. It supports the 1756-BA1 or the 1756-BATM battery which needs to be regularly maintained.
