The Allen-Bradley Logix5555 is a ControlLogix module in the Logix5000 Controllers series. It has an RS-232 serial port that supports communication options like ASCII, DF1 full/half-duplex, DF1 radio modem, DH-485, and Modbus communication via logic functions. The Logix5555 can handle 32 controller tasks with up to 100 programs per task and this number includes all event trigger tasks. It can communicate over networks like ControlNet, EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, DH+, Remote I/O, SynchLink and various third-party process and device networks. The Logix5555 controller has a 1.5 MB user memory and a 208 KB I/O memory. The Logix5555 comes with a maximum of 128,000 I/O with any combination of a maximum of 128,000 digital I/O and a maximum of 4000 analog I/O. It draws a current of 1200mA at 5.1V DC and one of 14mA at 24V DC from the backplane of the chassis. It has a maximum power and thermal dissipation of 3.5 W and of 11.9 BTU/hour respectively. It needs one slot for mounting in a 1756 chassis. Multiple Logix5555 controllers can be installed in the same chassis. The Logix5555 can be programmed with relay ladder logic, structured text, function blocks, and SFC programming languages. The Logix5555 controller supports a maximum of 250 controller connections. With full controller redundancy support, it is capable of Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP). It gets integrated motion support from the EtherNet/IP, SERCOS interface and the analog inputs. With a slim power supply option, it offers as much as a 29% reduction in space requirements.

The Logix 5555 is a family of Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) that is part of the ControlLogix product platform from Allen-Bradley. The Logix 5555 product family is comprised of 1756-L55, 1756-L55M12, 1756-L55M13, 1756-L55M14, 1756-L55M16, 1756-L55M22, 1756-L55M23, and 1756-L55M24. These controllers are provided with one (1) RS-232 serial interface that supports DFI point-to-point, Master and Slave modes. It also supports DH-485 communication protocol as well as ASCII system protocol.

These controllers are single slot width modules that install directly to any 1756 ControlLogix chassis such as 1756-A4 4-Slot chassis, 1756-A7 7-Slot chassis, 1756-A10 10-slot chassis, 1756-A13 13-Slot chassis, and 1756-A17 17-slot chassis. The backplane current draw of these controllers ranges from 1.23 Amperes - 1.25 Amperes @ 5.1 Volts DC and 0.014 Amperes @ 24 Volts DC.

Compatible controller memory boards for the Logix 5555 category includes 1756-M12, 1756-M13, 1756-M14, 1756-M16, 1756-M22, 1756-M23, 1756-M24.

The Logix 5555 uses a battery backup with appropriate replacement of 1756-BA1, a lithium battery with an approximate weight of 0.59 grams.

For interfacing with programming workstations, the controller may be downloaded with user programs through the RS-232 interface using the 1756-CP3 or 1747-CP3 serial programming cable.
