The Allen-Bradley Logix 5572 is a controller category that is part of the larger ControlLogix 5570 Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) product family. The Logix 5572 specifically features Two (2) controller items, particularly standard 1756-L72 controller and a conformally coated 1756-L72K controller, ideally used for corrosive and harsh environment.

The common features of both the member controllers include a 4MB user memory, 0.98 I/O memory and 1Gb non-volatile memory provided by the pre-installed 1784-SD1 which can be upgraded with the use of the 1784-SD2 Secure Digital (SD) card. This controller can accommodate a maximum of 128,000 Discrete I/O and 4000 Analog I/O signals. It has an environmentally friendly design, eliminating the need of lithium batteries for storing the contents of the volatile Random Access memory (RAM) as both are equipped with energy storage modules which are capacitor based modules. Embedded energy storage modules are 1756-ESMCAP for 1756-L72 and 1756-ESMCAPK for 1756-L72K. These energy storage modules may be replaced appropriately with 1756-ESMNSE, 1756-ESMNSEK, 1756-ESMNRM, and 1756-ESMNRMK.

The Logix 5572 comes with built-in USB communication interface and supports installation of additional communication modules that support EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Data Highway Plus, Remote I/O, SynchLink, Third-party process and device networks. These controllers support integrated motion through Serrial Real-Time Communication System (SERCOS) protocol, analog wiring options and motion over Ethernet I/P. Supported programming language by the 1756-L72 and 1756-L72K include Relay Ladder Logic (RLL), Structured Text (ST), Function Block Diagram (FBD) and Sequential Function Chart (SFC). This controller supports 32 Program task with each task having 100 programs using any of the provided triggers.

Its high-performance processors have the memory and speed necessary to meet the demands of the industrial process, motion, and discrete applications. The Logix5572 can perform 32 tasks which can be any combination of continuous or periodic controller tasks that is capable of having 100 programs per periodic task. For communication, it uses Remote I/O, ControlNet, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP, SynchLink, third-party networks, and a USB port. The Logix5572 has 4 MB of user memory and 0.98 MB of I/O memory. It uses an advanced SDRAM with a 1 GB Secure Digital (SD) card for rapid transfer and improved integrity. It has a maximum of 128,000 digital I/O and of 4000 analog I/O. It draws a current of 5mA at 1.2V DC and one of 800mA at 5.1V DC from the backplane of the chassis. Its maximum power and thermal dissipations are 2.5 W and 8.5 BTU/hour respectively. It requires one slot for mounting in a 1756 chassis and multiple Logix5572 can be installed in the same chassis. It can be programmed using programming languages like SFC, Structured text, and Relay ladder. The Logix5572 controller can support up to 500 controller connections. With full controller redundancy, it has a Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP) feature. It has integrated motion support on the EtherNet/IP network, the SERCOS interface, and the analog inputs. An Energy Storage Module (ESM) eliminates the tedious job of maintaining and replacing the controller’s lithium batteries. The Logix5572 also features an onboard display that provides enhanced controller diagnostics and information during run-time.
