The Allen-Bradley MVI56-103M module is an IEC 60870-5-103 master communication module for ControlLogix platforms. It has 2 independent master ports and it supports up to 32 sessions. The module is certified by the RoHS, CE, ATEX, and CSA standards. The MVI56-103M module interfaces with a maximum of 32 devices with serial communication ports with a ControlLogix processor. The 2 communication interfaces on the module perform as controlling devices to interface with controlled devices on their native networks. Each of these master ports are independently configurable. The MVI56-103M module is an ideal solution for applications where ControlLogix systems need to communicate with IEC-compatible devices. The devices compatible with the MVI56-103M include breakers, substation communication modules, and relays.
The features available on the MVI56-103M module such as time-stamping and TRBE (true report by exception) allows the module to transmit a report to the processor without needing to be polled first and thus enable real-time data transmission for mission-critical applications. The MVI56-103M module requires 1 empty slot for installation in a 1756 rack. The module supports clock synchronization from or to the processor. Ladder language is used for the transfer of data between the module and the ControlLogix processor. The built-in battery provides backup power for up to 21 days when it is fully charged for the CMOS and real-time clock. When the battery discharges, the module reverts back to the default clock and BIOS settings. The electrical power requirements for the MVI56-103M module are 3 milliamps at 24 Volts DC and 800 milliamps at 5 Volts DC.
