The MVI56-DNPSNET module is a DNP 3.0 server Ethernet communication module. It is part of the inRAx product range from ProSoft Technology. DNP is an open communication protocol that is designed to achieve interoperability between systems used in the oil and gas, water, wastewater, and electrical utility industries. The MVI56-DNPSNET module allows ControlLogix processors to communicate with field devices which support the DNP protocol. DNP offers reliable and efficient communication, which also supports time stamping and TRBE for real-time data transmission. The components included with the module include the RS232 null modem for communication between a PC and the CFG port of the module and an RJ45 to DB9 male adapter cable and an inRAx solutions CD. The module is approved by various agencies including the CB safety, CE, RoHS, and GOST-R agencies. Typical applications for the MVI56-DNPSNET module include petrochemical, SCADA and DCS and power and distribution applications.
The MVI56-DNPSNET module can be installed in a local or remote rack. Ethernet or ControlNet communication with the processor is required when the module is installed in a remote rack The current load for the MVI56-DNPSNET module at 32 Volts DC is 3 milliamps and at 5.1 Volts DC, it is 800 milliamps. The recommended minimum cross-sectional area of the power and grounding conductors are 1.3 square millimeters and 4 square millimeters, respectively. LED indicators are provided on the module for displaying the module status, application status, backplane transfer status, and the serial activity status. A non-replaceable rechargeable battery provides backup power for the real-time module clock and CMOS. A fully-charged battery provides backup power for up to 21 days.
