1794-IP4

The Allen-Bradley 1794-IP4 is a 1794 FLEX Pulse Counter Module. It performs calculation and high-speed scaling for industrial applications such as speed calculation, quantity counting, and flow monitoring. An input signal of 6V amplitude should be provided by all the input devices of this module. For an input-On condition, it has a 6V minimum threshold and for an input-Off condition, it has a maximum 3V threshold. The input signals must pass cleanly through the transitional region between 3V and 6V, otherwise, the module may not operate properly. It has various flow and turbine metering applications in the automotive, power management, food, beverage, oil, and gas industries. The 1794-IP4 module has 4 pulse counter inputs in 2 groups of 2 inputs each. It has a maximum counting frequency of 100kHz. The 1794-IP4 has a nominal external DC supply current of 150mA at 12V DC and 75mA at 24V DC. It has a dimension of 1.8 x 3.7 x 2.1 in. and 12 - 24V DC external power supply. The 1794-IP4 has a maximum power dissipation of 5W at 26.4V DC and a thermal dissipation of 17.1 BTU/hr. at 26.4V DC. It can be mounted on the 1794-TB2, 1794-TB3, 1794-TB3S and the 1794-TBNF terminal base units. For wiring, Belden 8761 or equivalent wiring with a maximum length of 1000ft (304.8m) must be used. The 1794-IP4 module has 8 yellow LED status indicators for the logic side and 1 LED (red or green) for the power status. It is installed using a DIN rail by snapping it onto the DIN rail. It has various communication options such as ControlNet, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP, and Universal Remote I/O. It also has XT versions of standard modules for operating in extreme environments, which reduces panel and maintenance costs.

The Allen-Bradley 1794-IP4 is a Pulse Counter Module that is part of the Flex I/O product family. It is used in counting applications, mainly in the manufacturing industry. It may be part as distributed I/O of SLC500, PLC5, CompactLogix, and ControlLogix controllers as well as I/O of a Flex I/O controller.

The 1794-IP4 cannot be operated without a Flex I/O communication adapter. It must be paired with a Flex I/O Ethernet, DeviceNet, or any other 1794 communications adapter. For termination, it requires use of 1794-TB2, 1794-TB3, 1794-TB3S, 1794-TBN, or 1794-TBKD terminal base units. Use only DIN rails with zinc plating, Yellow-Chromate material, as this ensures connection to the panel grounding. It is important to note that the 1794-IP4 is connected to the ground via the terminal base and DIN rail. Use of non-conductive or material that can be easily affected by corrosion and oxidation may break the required connectivity to the panel grounding. Additionally, in hazardous locations, insertion or removal of a Flex I/O module such as the 1794-IP4 may produce electrical arcs which may lead to explosion. It is recommended to perform such operation without power applied to the Flex I/O assembly.

The 1794-IP4 comes with four (4) input channels in two (2) groups of two (2) channels each. The module qualifies an input pulse if the signal has a minimum pulse width of 2 μs with counting or switching frequency of 100 kHz. Each channel of this module has a minimum on-state voltage of 6 Volts DC; maximum on-state voltage of 26.4 Volts DC. It has a Flexbus current draw of 5 milliamperes @ 5 Volts DC with power dissipation of 5 Watts @ 26.4 Volts DC and a thermal dissipation of 17.1 BTU/hour @ 26.4 Volts DC.
