About 1775SRS

The 1775SRS is a scanner-communication module from Allen-Bradley. The module is used together with programmable controllers (PLC-3 or PLC-3/10) in the PLC family to provide enhanced communication speeds through its 4 communication channels. The 1775SRS features Input/Output scan priority which allows a user-defined chassis scan procedure, a thumbwheel switch to differentiate between scanners in a PLC-3 or a PLC-3/10 system and a backup connector that is mandated to transfer the control of the system to a backup system in case the primary system fails. The 1775SRS also has a terminal arm which allows for interfacing with Input/Output, peer-to-peer communication, and backup communication.

Note that a PLC-3 system can accommodate a maximum of fifteen 1775SRS modules while a PLC-3/10 can accommodate a maximum of 2 scanners. The 1775SRS helps interface 1 PLC system with other processors, computers, or an industrial terminal over a data highway network or Peer Communication Link (PCL) channel. When using these communication channels, a system becomes a single station on the network. The network can handle a maximum of 64 stations. The PCL or Data Highway trunkline can run up to 10,000 feet. The maximum distance each station can be from the trunkline is 100 feet. The 1775SRS occupies one slot in a PLC-3/10 chassis.

The 1775SRS has a communication rate of 57600 bauds while using a Data Highway (DH), PCL, or I/O link within a maximum cable length of 10,000 feet. However, when the 1775SRS is communicating only over the I/O link, the communication speed changes to 115200 bauds at a cable length of 5,000 feet. The 1775SRS accommodates cabling using the 1770-CD twin-axial cable when a DH link is used. The 1784-CP5 industrial terminal cable (T50) is used for PCL links. The 1775SRS consumes 6.0 Amps from the backplane at a voltage of 5 Volts DC and 20 milliamperes at a voltage of 15 Volts DC. The 1775SRS has status indicators on the front panel to help in the monitoring and easy location of faults within the system.
