The Allen-Bradley 1770-KFC15 ControlNet Communication Interface Module is an interface module designed to provide a communication link between a ControlNet system and devices with serial or parallel ports (such as Programming Terminals, Portable PCs, and every supported serial/parallel device). The ControlNet network is an open industrial network protocol that uses CIP to provide reliable highspeed control and I/O data, and it also provides real-time control and messaging communication capabilities that do not rely on timing to be executed. Generally, the ControlNet network connects to devices like the I/O Chassis, the programmable logic controllers, Human Interface Modules (HMis), PCs, and drives, and some of these devices need an interface to connect to the ControlNet network, and that is what the 1770-KFC15 Interface Module is made for. The 1770-KFC15 Interface Module allows the operators to connect RS-232 devices directly to the ControlNet network.

The 1770-KFC15 Interface Module has an integral power connector that requires a 115 to 230 Volts AC input voltage range for operation. It has a total power dissipation rating of 23 Watts and a branch circuit protection rating of 10 Amps. The 1770-KFC15 Interface Module has a rear-side parallel port with a B-25 (female) connector and a maximum cable length of 3 meters (10 feet). It also a rear RS-232 output port with adjustable Baud rates (300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19,200, 38,400 Bauds) and a Network Access Port (NAP) with an 8-pin phone jack connector. Also on the rear side of the module are ControlNet Channel A and B BNC Connectors that supports a RG-6 75-ohms coaxial cable. The 1770-KFC15 Interface Module has 4 front-side LED indicators that show the network and the device status.  The 1770-KFC15 Interface Module has an approximate shipping weight of 0.9 kilograms (2.0 pounds), and approximate dimensions of 11.7 x 17.8 x 5.1 centimeters (4.6 x 7 x 2 inches).
