The 1770-SB Data Cartridge Recorder Module is a portable highspeed recording module, that is designed to provide a reliable means of storage and retrieval for the Allen-Bradley programmable controllers and the industrial terminal's program data. This data cartridge recording module can be used to record, load, and verify the PLC Processor’s data table, user programs, and messages via magnetic tape, and it is designed to be operated either manually or remotely. The 1770-SB Module can be operated manually via pushbuttons on the recorder panel or through signal commands from control devices. It can also be operated remotely via a keyboard from an industrial terminal or with PLC controllers that are connected through either of the two 25-pin RS-232-C ports on the recorder’s control panel.

The 1770-SB Module is supplied with an integral power supply, an AC power cord, and a 230 Volts AC fuse kit for line protection. It has an operating voltage rating of 230 Volts AC at 47 to 63 Hertz operating line frequency, and an acceptable operating input voltage range of 207 to 253 Volts AC. The program data is stored on a mini Data Cartridge made with 140 feet of computer-grade magnetic tape, which consists of two 72K-word tracks that can store up to 144K words of 1 long program or two 72K-word long programs. During operation in recording, loading, or verifying applications, the 1770-SB Module buffers and continuously checsk the 8-bit format data for errors to ensure data integrity. The 1770-SB Module comes with a baud rate switch which can be used to select and adjust data transfer baud rates, and it also has a track selector knob on the panel for selecting tracks. The 1770-SB Module has an approximate shipping weight of 7.2 kilograms and total dimensions of 15.3 x 35.6 x 45.8 centimeters.
