The Allen-Bradley PLC 5 series 1771-ACNR adapter module is a ControlNet adapter module that supports redundant media. This adapter module is used to build a complete PLC 5 programmable controller system. The 1771-ACNR ControlNet redundant media adapter module has 2 ControlNet connectors rather than just 1 like other PLC 5 series ControlNet adapter modules. One of the ControlNet connectors is used for redundant connections. The 1771-ACNR ControlNet redundant media adapter module also has a network access port or NAP to connect to a programming terminal on the ControlNet network.

The Allen-Bradley 1771-ACNR is a Remote ControlNet I/O Adapter Module for the 1771 PLC-5 system. It allows communication between the 1771 I/O modules in a 1771 chassis and a ControlNet scanner port over a ControlNet network. It has various features such as high-speed data transfer, diagnostic messages, and redundant media port. It has a Network Access Port (NAP) through which the user can access the local communication network for programming and maintenance. The 1771-ACNR module has a communication rate of 5Mbps. It requires a ControlNet PLC-5 controller and must be installed in remote ControlNet chassis. It needs a backplane current of 1A at 5V DC. It has a power dissipation of 5W and thermal dissipation of 17.06 BTU/hr. It needs to be installed in the far-left slot of the I/O chassis. Keying bands prevent incorrect module insertion in the slot. Keying bands for the ControlNet adapter modules are between 54 and 56 on the upper connector and between 16 and 18 on the lower connector. For wiring, a Quad shield RG-6 coaxial cable must be used. The 1771-ACNR module has one standard BNC connector for cable connection to the module. Two switch assemblies i.e., the ten’s switch and the one’s switch, need to be set to configure the adapter module to the network address ranging from 01-99. For troubleshooting and diagnostics, it has an OK indicator, a status indicator, and an alphanumeric display on the front panel of the adapter module. It also has a Communication Reset Pushbutton for resetting the module and resuming communication after an error.
