1771-CT

|

The 1771-CT cable is a power supply paralleling cable. It has been manufactured as part of the PLC 5 series by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. The 1771-CT power supply paralleling cable is known as a ?power supply paralleling cable? because its primary application is to connect 2 power supplies that are installed in the same chassis. Connecting 2 power supplies in parallel increases the power level in a system and it establishes communication between the 2 power supplies. It must be noted that the 1771-CT power supply paralleling cable does not support a redundancy system with the 2 power supplies and that the power supplies must be turned on at the same time to avoid creating an overcurrent condition in the first power supply that is turned on.

The Allen-Bradley 1771-CT is an I/O power supply paralleling chassis cable that is part of the PLC-5 line and is compatible with the 1771-P4S and 1771-P6S power supplies. It comes with a maximum backplane current of 1 A and has a typical module scan time of 1.3 to 5 ms. This conformally-coated chassis cable uses a 1771-WN wiring arm and also takes up one slot of each power supply, particularly the P/S parallel slot. The 1771-CT has a length of 1.5 m or 5 ft. and its approximate dimensions and weight are 89 x 165 x 51 mm or 3.5 x 6.5 x 2 inches and 0.9 kg or 1.9 lbs. respectively. The ambient temperatures of the 1771-CT chassis cable should be between -40 to 85 ° C or -40 to 185 °F while in operation and 0 to 60 °C or 32 to 140 °F when it is in storage.

Power supplies are an integral unit of a 1771 I/O system and up to two power supplies can be installed on a single system. To do so, operators should use the 1771-CT chassis cable, which allows each power supply to communicate with one another. In case a power supply in the I/O system needs to shut down, this cable allows it to signal to the other power supply that the indicator needs to be turned off. The other power supply will still try to run, even if the in-chassis processor or adapter has been disabled until it has exhausted its DC output limits and this is why redundancy is prevented.
