The Allen-Bradley 1771-DE is an Absolute Encoder Module. What makes it an absolute encoder is because it is an intelligent module which supplies a rapid response to the machine position using only the programmable controller scan. The 1771-DE can track the position of the absolute encoder. Based on the differentiation between your preset values and the encoder position, it can control up to 8 high current outputs. A throughput for all 8 outputs was supplied for less than 200 us and it can communicate through block transfers to the programmable controller. The module can operate a 16A continuous due to switching of 2A DC per output without derating when all the outputs are on. The 1771-DE has +5V DC input power supply and line/load regulation, drift, and ripple are included to its total output voltage tolerance. The required current of maximum capacity is 300 mA with BCD, natural binary, and standard gray as its encoder formats. The module has an estimated dimension of 6" x 3" x 10" (15 cm x 8 cm x 25 cm) and weighs 1.30 kg. It has 4.7 ms of new write-data throughput time and 9 pound-inches of toque for wiring arm connections. The keying will only fit between pins 2 and 4 and between pins 26 and 28 for Slot 0. In environmental conditions, the operating temperature is 32 – 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The module's storage temperature is between -40 and 185 degrees Fahrenheit with 5 - 95% non-condensing. The encoder module has a settling time of 100 ns and 3A output fuses. The 1771-DE has 800 mA backplane current at 5V DC with 50 KHz maximum input frequency. The encoder module can select from 5-24V DC output power supply. The input current per channel is II mA for single-ended and I8 mA for differential drivers and these are sunk by the encoder device. The input and output isolation voltages are 1500V RMS with input voltage range and logic state that is 1.7V DC for logic 1 and 0-0.6V DC for logic 0. The 1771-DE offers a 4A surge rating for 10 ms and VA rating per output is 48 watts and 384 watts per module. It has a high-true logic starting at totem pole, open collector, or differential drivers. The 1771-DE has adjustable rotation direction for increasing the position for gray code encoders.
