The Allen-Bradley 1771-DLC gray encoder input module is used to convert a gray code to binary numbers. It should be used with a 12 – 24V DC power supply. Its maximum module output is 70 A. The programmable module measures 3 cm x 15 cm x 25 cm and weighs 1.3 kg. The operating temperature is a 0 - 60°C and a storage temperature that is -40 - 85°C with 5 – 95% non-condensing relative humidity. The encoder module should have a 120 mA from the power supply to protect the module against overloading. The drive of the encoder sinks the 6 mA at 12V DC and 15 mA at 24V DC per gray code input. The encoder and the module should be connected to the power supply on its center. To connect the encoder to the module’s wiring arm it is advisable to use the Belden 9556 multiconductor shielded cable. A ground cable can only be found at one end and limit the cable at 50 feet. There should be enough plastic keying bands to ensure that the required type of module is placed in the right module slot and secure alignment with the backplane connector. The following keying bands positions are required for the 1771-DLC, between pins 4 and 6, and between pins 24 and 26. The modules logic state is 10 - 27V DC at Logic 1 and 0 – 2V DC at Logic 0. The modules digital resolution is 1 part in 256. To avoid electrostatic damage which damage the performance of the module, avoid touching backplane connectors or pins and the inside components. Ensure a static-free workplace. Touch the ground to discharge yourself before handling the module.
