The 1771-IF05 module is an analog input module manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation as part of the PLC 5 series. It is used to interface between the analog inputs and the PLC processors via block transfer programming. Some of the main applications that this unit is suitable for include temperature and pressure sensing, flow metering, and level sensing applications, among others. The 1771-IF module belongs to Series B, and it has 8 single-ended inputs with a voltage range of -10 to 10 Volts DC, 0 to 5 Volts DC, 1 to 5 Volts DC, and 0 to 10 Volts DC. The unit uses a current range of 4 to 20 milliamps, a maximum off-state AC/DC current of 1.7 milliamps, and a backplane current load of 1.3 Amps at 5 Volts DC. It also features a channel update time of 8 milliseconds for 8 channels as well as a resolution of 12 bits plus sign.
The Allen-Bradley 1771-IF05 module comes with a red and green LED that indicates the "FAULT" and "RUN" status on the front panel. This unit features optoelectrical isolation that protects the system circuits from electrical transients as well as an input filtering feature that reduces electrical noise. The 1771-IF05 module uses up to 12-bit resolution and provides analog-to-digital conversions and vice versa to enable the interface of analog signals with the values of the PLC data table. Additionally, it features the 1771-WB wiring arm that is used for replacing the module and it eliminates the need for disconnecting all the wiring. For installation in an I/O chassis, this module needs one slot, and the keying bands for correct installation are between pins 4 and 6 and 32 and 34 for the right connector and pins 6 and 8 and pins 22 and 24 for the left connector.
