The Allen-Bradley 1771-IG TTL input module is part of the Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation PLC 5 series. It needs 2 power sources in order to operate, and these are the I/O chassis backplane that the module is installed in, and a 5 Volts DC rated power supply that the users provide for the transmission of the TTL signals. The 1771-IG TTL input module is not designed to operate with AC voltage or reverse DC voltage. It should only be used with normal DC voltage. The 1771-IG TTL input module should always be protected from electrostatic discharge.

The Allen-Bradley 1771-IG is a PLC 5 Digital DC Input Module. It converts DC signals provided by user devices to the logic level needed by the processor. It controls the corresponding bits state in PLC data table. It provides a modular design with space-saving and pocket-friendly means to add input to a PLC control system. It has a 1771-WC wiring arm for replacing the module, eliminating the need for disconnecting the wiring. It is a series A module and it supports ½, 1, and 2-slot I/O addressing. It has applications in TTL interfaces and BCD interfaces encoders. The 1771-IG module has 8 inputs with 5V DC TTL voltage category. It has an operating voltage range of 5.0 – 5.3V DC and is TTL-compatible. It has an input signal delay of less than 1ms. It has a maximum customer supply current per module of 500mA and a backplane current load of 122mA. It has a maximum power dissipation of 3.3W and a maximum thermal dissipation of 11.3 BTU/hr. It is installed in a 1771 I/O chassis containing a PLC processor. Keying bands for putting it in the right slot are between pins 34 and 36 for the upper connector and pins 4 and 6 for the lower connector. The 1771-IG module contains eight status indicators for sensing TTL voltages at the front panel. It has optoelectrical isolation to protect the system circuits from electrical transients and an input filtering feature for reducing electrical noise.
