The Allen-Bradley 1771-KA2 is a PLC 2 Communication Adapter Module. It interfaces PLC processors to the Data Highway Module which extends the functionalities of PLC processors, allowing them to exchange data among themselves and with other RS-232-C devices. It creates a larger automatic manufacturing network by integrating all the single PLC processors. One Data Highway cable can handle a maximum of 64 separate programmable processors and computers up to 10,000 feet (3,048m) apart. The 1771-KA2 is compatible with various PLC 2 family of processors. The 1771-KA2 module has a recommended communication rate of 9.6k baud for the program interface port, 57.6k baud for the data highway port, and 91.2k baud for the processor port. It has a maximum power supply requirement of 5V DC at 1.2A. Compatible power supplies for this module are the 1771-P1, -P2, -P3, -P4, or the P5. The 1771-KA2 can be installed in any slot in the 1771 I/O chassis except the furthest left one. Key Band positions for correct installation are between pins 4 - 6 for the lower connector and pins 22 - 24 for the upper connector. Communication channels are connected to the processor or first module in a daisy chain and to the programming terminal or second module in the daisy chain. The 1771-KA2 module is made for a clean and dry industrial environment with a 0 – 60 °C (32 – 140 °F) operating temperature, 5% to 95% (without condensation) relative humidity, and 30g operating shock.
