The Allen-Bradley 1771-KA3 is a PLC 2 Communication Adapter Module. It interfaces PLC processors to the Data Highway Plus Module which extends the functionalities of PLC processors allowing them to exchange data among themselves and with other RS-232-C devices. The 1771-KA3 creates a larger automatic manufacturing network by integrating all the single PLC processors into one system. One Data Highway cable can handle a maximum of 64 separate programmable processors and computers up to 10,000 feet (3,048m) apart. It is compatible with various PLC 2 processors. The 1771-KA3 module has a recommended communication rate of 9.6k baud for the program interface port, 57.6k baud for the data highway port, and 91.2k baud for the processor port. It has a maximum power supply requirement of 5V DC at 1.2A. Compatible power supplies for this module are the 1771-P1, -P2, -P3, -P4, or the P5. The 1771-KA3 can be installed in any slot in the 1771 I/O chassis except the slot furthest to the left of the data highway slot. Key Band positions for correct installation are between pins 4 - 6 for the lower connector and the 22 - 24 for the upper connector. Communication channels are connected to a processor or first module in a daisy chain formation and to the programming terminal or the second module in the daisy chain. The 1771-KA3 module is made for a clean and dry industrial environment with a 0 – 60 °C (32 – 140 °F) operating temperature, 5% to 95% (without condensation) relative humidity, and a 30g operating shock.
