The Allen-Bradley 1771-KH module is a modem interface module. It is used to provide an interface for the PLC-2 series processors to communicate with modems in long-distance applications. The 1771-KH module uses a half-duplex communication protocol based on the TWR S-70 / S-703 protocol. The 1771-KH module can communicate with a modem only when the PLC-2 processor is in the RUN mode. The 1771-KH module accepts messages from the modem in the S-70/S-703 format and it replies with system information or performs the requested action in the PLC-2 processor. The processors compatible with the 1771-KH module include the Mini-PLC-2 processor, Mini-PLC-2/05 processor, Mini PLC-2/15 processor, PLC-2/20 processor, and the PLC-2/30 processor. The 1771-KH module can be installed in any module with a 1771 I/O chassis which is within 10 cable-feet of a compatible processor.
There are three communication interfaces on the front panel of the 1771-KH module, and they are the MODEM interface for direct connection to a computer up to 50 feet away or for connecting to a computer through a modem, the PROGRAM interface for connecting to an industrial terminal for a PC processor, and the PROCESSOR interface for connecting to a PC processor through a cable. The electrical interface of the 1771-KH module is compatible with the RS-232 network. The communication protocol is based on the TRW S-70/S-703 synchronous/asynchronous half duplex industrial protocol. The supported communication rates are 75, 1110, 300, 500, 1200, or 2400 bps. The current drawn by the 1771-KH module from the chassis backplane is 1 Amp. The operating temperature enrage for the module is from 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The storage temperature range for the 1771-KH module is from -40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit. The relative humidity range for operation and storage is 5 to 95%.
