1771-PM

|

The 1771-PM module from Allen-Bradley is a specialized PLC 5 series module. It is a clutch/brake module that can connect to up to 4 operator stations at a time in an industrial control system. The 1771-PM clutch/brake module can be used to monitor the operator inputs, to monitor the shaft position with cam limit switch feedback, and to control presses by using solenoid triac outputs. This module is made to operate in parallel with another clutch/brake module. The 1771-PM clutch/brake module is also known as a voting processor module because it needs to sense the exact same system conditions as the other clutch/brake module in the system and to operate in consensus with it.

The Allen-Bradley 1771-PM is a microprocessor-based clutch/brake device. It is an essential component in building a clutch/brake controller and press system for use with a PLC Programmable Controller that has 1771 Remote I/O Operation. It generates three types of 8-bit binary fault codes including trip-condition messages, latched messages, and non-latched messages. The clutch/brake module can communicate with the programmable controller at 57.6k baud within a maximum distance of 10,000 cable feet. The 1771-PM Clutch/Brake Module is mainly used for monitoring and controlling the mechanical power press using a standard algorithm. Two of these modules, operating in parallel, are required to provide press control from the remote I/O chassis. Each of the paralleled devices monitors its own I/O and compares input conditions with the other module. Both modules must be receiving identical input conditions. Any mismatch stops press motion. The module then transmits a message to the PC relaying the reason for stopping. The 1771-PM provides flexibility in selecting clutch/brake controller functions. The switches on the I/O chassis can be set depending on the application requirements. The module can be configured for operator stations 3 and 4, motion detector feedback, valve stem feedback, air pressure feedback, ungrounded or grounded AC power, on-the-hop, half stroke or stroke-and-a-half, dump valve circuit, or micro-inch functions.
