The Allen-Bradley 1771-WD field wiring arm is a PLC 5 and Bulletin 1771 series field wiring arm. It is made to be used with different Allen-Bradley digital I/O modules such as the 1771-OZL digital contact output module, the 1771-ODZ digital AC output module, and the 1771-ID AC/DC input module. The 1771-WD field wiring arm is installed by being attached to the pivot bar on the bottom of the 1771 I/O chassis in the PLC 5 series. It is designed to pivot upwards to connect to a module and to allow the module to be installed or removed without disconnecting all the system wires. The 1771-WD field wiring arm is conformally coated and it does not need external power.

The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1771-WD field wiring arm is a field wiring arm. The arm is used with a variety of modules such as the Allen-Bradley 1771 digital contact output modules (1771-OW, 1771-OYL, 1771-OZL), the Allen-Bradley 1771 digital AC output modules (1771-OD, 1771 ODZ, 1771-OR), and the Allen-Bradley 1771 digital AC/DC input modules (1771-ID, 1771-ID01). Note that the 1771-WD field wiring arm is used to make connections to the modules. The wiring arm is attached to the pivot bar on the bottom of the I/O chassis. The field wiring arm pivots upward and it connects with the module, enabling the module to be installed or removed without disconnecting the wires.
Before making connections to the Allen-Bradley 1771-WD field wiring arm, the power should be removed from the module. When making connections, swing the wiring arm into position on the front of the module where the locking tab on the module will secure the 1771-WD field wiring arm into place. This step should be followed by the actual connections. Note that each terminal has 1 wire. However, where multiple connections to a terminal are required, an auxiliary terminal strip should be used. Note that the field wiring arm terminal identification number is not the same as the number of the bit which controls a specific output. The Allen-Bradley 1771-WD field wiring arm supports a screw torque of between 7 and 9 pounds on an inch. To indicate that the field load has been applied to the field wiring, all the module’s status indicators will light up. Note that a 14-gauge wire connected to all terminals on the 1771-WD field wiring arm may not allow the field wiring arm cover to close. Therefore, when this happens, a smaller gauge wire may be required.
