The 1784-U2CN cable is a USB to ControlNet cable manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. By using this cable, an operator can connect a computer (laptop or desktop computer) to a ControlNet network through a USB port. ControlNet is an industrial networking protocol that is used for controlling industrial automation units. The connector cable meets the IP 30 protection rating. It is not water resistant. It runs with a 5.25 Volts DC voltage supply and it has a current rating of 225 milliamps. The isolation voltage of the connector is set at 30 Volts continuous. It is a basic insulation. The ControlNet current value is 70 milliamps at 24 Volts. The 1784-U2CN cable should not exceed 55 degrees Celsius for normal operation. It can be used at up to an altitude of 2000 meters without getting derated. The device has been rated with the cULus, CE, RCM, KCC, and CI standards.

The 1784-U2CN cable is comprised of 3 components. It has connector components on both ends and a node address switch in the center. The switch is used to change the node address. A LED indicator is present on the switch with indicators for the USB status, the module status, and the ControlNet network status. The USB indicator turns on green when the cable is configured but no traffic is present. It starts blinking when there is an active network on the cable. The other indicators work similarly for module status and ControlNet network updates. The 1784-U2CN cable is sensitive to electrostatic discharge which can cause internal damage to the components.
