The Allen-Bradley 1785-L60B is a PLC5 controller that is compatible for use in medium to large scale applications as it supports up to 64KWords of controller memory, capable of handling up to 3072 Input and Output signals or 3072 input and 3072 output in complimentary mode.

The 1785-L60B is provided with communication ports such as Four (4) DH+/Remote I/O (Adapter or Scanner), One (1) serial port configurable for RS-232 and 423 and RS-422A compatible and Two (2) programming terminals. The DH+ and RIO ports are 3-pin terminals that uses the 1770-CD or Belden 9463 communication cable as physical media. The programming terminal ports are 8-pin mini-DIN circular connectors that are also assignable for DH+ protocol. The serial communication port is a 25-pin sub-D connector that supports ASCII, DF1 half and full-duplex communication.

The 1785-L60B is equipped with status LED indicators such as BATT that indicates battery indicator, mode status such as RUN/FAULT indicator, FORCE indicator depicting active I/O forcing, COMM led that indicates the status of Channel 0 communication.

The 1785-L60B is capable of controlling I/O modules installed up to 24 I/O racks with maximum number of I/O chassis 93 with 92 remote I/O chassis. The 1785-L60B has an internal battery with catalog number 1770-XYC. This battery will completely discharge 30 days after initial activation of the BATT led. Backup memory may also be added to avoid deletion of important user program and data. Compatible memory backup modules are 1785-ME16 with 16K Words, 1785-ME32 with 32KWords, 1785-ME64 with 64KWords and 1785-ME100Kwords.

The 1785-L60B has 3 different I/O hardware-addressing modes (2-slot, 1-slot, and half-slot addressing) with the 2-slot mode addressing any mix of 8-point modules, a pair of 16-point modules, and no 32-point module addressing, the 1-slot addressing any mix of 8 or 16-point module, and a pair of 32-point modules, and the half-slot mode addressing any mix of 8, 16, and 32-point modules. The processor module has a maximum of I/O chassis connection of 93 (32 per link) and it communicates via the 25-pin D-shell serial port, which supports standard RS-232 and RS-423 serial interface, a DH+ port for connection to the DH+ network and a remote I/O port (Channel 1B port). The 1785-L60B has an operational temperature range between 0 and 60 0C (32 and 140 0F) around a relative humidity range of 5-95% without condensation, and it is built for an operational shock of 30G and a vibration of 2G at 10 to 500 Hertz. It weighs approximately 1.42 kilograms (3 pounds) and comes in an open-style enclosure, and it is UL, C-TICK, CE, and CSA-certified.
