The Allen-Bradley MVI71-MCM module is a Modbus master/slave network interface module. It is classified under the programmable logic controller series and it is a single-slot 1771 backplane compatible module. The unit is recognized as an input/output module with access to processor memory. This allows for a simplified data connection between the processor and the module. The MVI71-MCM module also features the Ladder Logic protocol that enables a seamless data transfer from the module to the processor. The MVI71-MCM module requires the Allen-Bradley PLC processor with a compatible power supply. For optimal performance, it requires a minimum of 64 MB of RAM. However, the manufacturer recommends 256 MB of RAM for optimal functionality. In addition, ensure that it has at least 400 MB of free hard disk space, and use a 256-color VGA graphics indicator.
During the installation of the MVI71-MCM module, follow all of the safety instructions. Failure to follow the safety regulations could result in damage to the unit or even cause serious injury. The MVI71-MCM module can only handle cold swapping. Therefore, the power should be disconnected before the insertion or removal of the module from the chassis. For effective functioning, there should be a minimal amount of data transferred to the module. The MVI71-MCM module features 1 or 2 stop bits and the data size is 7 or 8 bits. The MVI71-MCM module comes with a baud rate of 110 to 115 kilobaud and it supports the floating-point data movement. It features a command list of up to 100 commands per master port.
