PLC-5-46C

The Allen-Bradley PLC-5-46C is a ControlNet PLC-5 Processor with Protected Memory. It is equivalent to the PLC-5-40C processor but with an added memory protection feature. Protected Memory allows limited access to proprietary or critical areas of programs. It can restrict the use of processor operations or protect the processor memory and the I/O words. The PLC-5-46C includes a ControlNet port for high-speed communication which features both peer-to-peer communication and I/O control faster than the DH+ and the universal remote I/O network. The PLC-5-46C processor requires a backplane current load of 3.3A at 5V and has a maximum heat dissipation of 59 BTU/hr. It has up to a 48K user memory with a limit of 32K words per data-table file. It has up to 2048 total forcible I/O (any number of the I/O can be inputs or outputs) with 2048 complementary inputs and outputs. It also includes 48,000 non-forcible I/O available only as ControlNet I/O. It has an average ControlNet I/O scan time per rack of 0.5ms which is much faster than typical I/O scan time of 10ms at 57.6 kb/s, 7ms at 115.2 kb/s, and 3ms at 230.4 kb/s. The PLC-5-46C requires the left-most slot for installation in a 1771 I/O chassis with keying bands between pins 40-42 and 54-56 for fixing that slot. It has EEPROM-based memory modules and battery-backed RAM for data backup. For troubleshooting and diagnostics, the PLC-5-46C processor has programmable fault response to prevent the system from crashing. For data processing, it uses the familiar ladder-logic. The PLC-5-46C also includes various other features such as advanced instruction sets, timed interrupt routine, LED status indicators, etc.
