The Allen-Bradley 1734-IJ is an incremental encoder module. It has one input, a wiring category of 1 on its signal ports, and a key switch position of 2. It has an open-type type enclosure and is compatible with a 1734-TB, 1734-TBS, 1734-TB3, or a 1734-TB3S wiring base. The 1734-IJ module can mount on a DIN rail or panel mount with a 22 to 14 AWG solid or stranded copper wire. Users can monitor its current state via 5 status indicators. One red/green indicator is for the module status, another red/green indicator is for the network status, and 3 yellow status indicators are for the A, B, and Z inputs. The yellow status indicators of this module will flash when the input is toggling on and off and this feature is unique to this module. The total measurement of this module is 2.21 x 0.47 x 2.97 inches and its weight is 0.08 pounds. Users do not need to install any additional external DC power supply to make the 1734-IJ module work.
The 1734-IJ produces 6 or 10 bytes of input data (scanner Rx) and consumes 1 byte of I/O data (scanner Tx). It also returns the 24-bit binary number's frequency ranging from 0 to 16,777,215 that is expressed in a 32-bit long word. Note that a user-selectable preset value and a roller value is associated with every counter. The nominal input voltage of the 1734-IJ is 5 Volts DC while the input current is 19.1 mA at 5 Volts DC and 25.7 mA at 6 Volts DC. The input off-state maximum current is equal to or less than 0.250 mA and the voltage is equal to or less than 1.25 Volts DC, while the input on-state maximum voltage is +/-6 Volts the current is more than or equal to 5 mA and the voltage, is greater than or equal to 2.6 Volts DC. The 1734-IJ has a continuous isolation voltage of 50 Volts from field-side to system and a non-condensing relative humidity of 5 to 95%. The module’s operating temperature range is -4 to 131 degrees Fahrenheit and its non-operating temperature range is -40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit. It also has an operating shock of 30 g, a non-operating shock of 50 g, and an operating vibration of 5 g at 10 to 500 Hertz. Its maximum POINTbus current is 160 mA, its maximum power dissipation is 1.1 W at the rated load, and its maximum thermal dissipation is 3.75 BTU/hour.
