ILX34-MBS485

The ILX34-MBS485 is a Serial communication module that is manufactured by ProSoft Technology. This module is compatible for use with the CompactLogix L1 controllers and may also be installed to any 1734 Point I/O assembly. This module provides local and remote serial connectivity and provides RS232 / RS422 / RS485 interfaces.

The ILX34-MBS485 specifically a CompactLogix L1 assembly as a master or slave device. It allows the CompactLogix PLC that uses this module to communicate with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems as well as barcode readers, power meters and Intelligent Electronic Devices (IED), Variable Frequency Drives, Soft starters and other similar devices.

It is programmed with a dedicated Add On Instruction (AOI) that automatically creates UDT, providing logical I/O definitions for I/O, status and control data.

Additionally, the ILX34-MBS485’s serial port communication is activated and deactivated using the ladder logic program. It supports up to 1000 Words of data and capable of implementing up to 30 MODBUS commands wherein up to 36 commands per command may be carried out. Supported transmission rate of the serial interfaces are 110 to 38.4K baud, parity of 1 or 2, Data bits of 7 or 8 and parity of none, even or odd.

The module accommodates a voltage rating of between 10 and 28.8 Volts DC. The ILX34-MBS485 module has a Pointbus current rating of 75 mA at 5 Volts DC. However, its serial line voltage is rated between -7 Volts DC and 12 Volts DC. The ILX34-MBS485 module has a single full-duplex input. The module features LED status indicators to help in its application monitoring. For example, it contains 2 green LED status indicators to indicate the transmit (TXD) and receive (RXD) conditions. Also, it contains 1 green/red module status indicator and 1 green/red network status indicator. The ILX34-MBS485 module measures 2.21 inches in height, 0.47 inches in width, and 2.97 inches in depth. The module has a shock rating of 30 G peak acceleration when in operation and 50 G peak acceleration when not in operation. The module’s vibration rating stands at 5 G when it is tested at a frequency of between 10 Hertz and 500 Hertz. The ILX34-MBS485 module has an ESD immunity rating of 6 kiloVolts for contact discharges and 8 kiloVolts for air discharges. The supported Modbus function codes include, but are not limited to, the read coil status, read input status, reset holding registers, and the read input registers codes.
