SST-PFB-PLC5

The Allen-Bradley SST-PFB-PLC5 coprocessor module enables PLC-5 operation on the ProfiBus DP network in a master/scanner mode. The main purpose of the co-processor is to enable the PLC-5 to communicate with and control the slave devices that can be used across the network. The ProfiBus network configuration includes other components like a gateway, a terminal for PLC-5 programming, sensors or actuators, a Flex I/O adapter, an SLC 500 adapter, and a PanelView monitor. It is important to mention that the SST-PFB-PLC5 co-processor includes 4 communication interfaces: a DP interface, an RS-232 interface, a processor interface, and a user interface with LED indicators. The DP interface enables communication with a Profibus DP network and the RS-232 interface allows for connection with a personal computer. When the module is connected to a PC, the users can monitor and configure the network according to their needs.

The DP interface of the SST-PFB-PLC5 co-processor module’s interface allows communication to the supported programmable logic controller. The DP interface can communicate at the following rates: 9.6, 19.2, 93.75, 187.5, and 500 kilobits per second and 1.5, 3, 6, and 12 megabits per second.  The DP interface provides connection to the DP network through a 9-pin female connector of the D-shell type. The users can use a special SST Profibus configuration tool to adjust the communication parameters such as Object Dictionary (OD), polling cycle timings, bus parameters, Communication Relationship List (CRL) and slave configuration/parameter database. The SST-PFB-PLC5 co-processor module uses a processor interface which is a 58-pin connector at the left side of the unit. In order to use the SST-PFB-PLC5 co-processor module, the users must have the following components: an I/O chassis, a PLC5 processor, and any external or internal I/O power supply unit. The SST-PFB-PLC5 co-processor module is compatible with Allen-Bradley components from the 1771 series.
