The Allen-Bradley 1783-BMS06TGA is a Stratix Ethernet I/P managed switch. This ethernet switch features a total of Six (6) Ethernet ports composed of Four (4) Fast Ethernet (FE) and Two (2) Gigabit Ethernet (GE) ports. These Ethernet I/P ports are copper ports that supports up to 100Mbps (Fast Ethernet) and 1000 Mbps (Gigabit Ethernet) communication rate. This Ethernet switch is ideally used for implementing an Ethernet I/P network with heightened level of security and increased efficiency.
It supports industrial protocol such as Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) sync and capable of Network Address Translation (NAT), and supports Device Level Ring (DLR) Ethernet topology. This managed Ethernet switch has a power supply requirement of 24VDC voltage, with applicable range of 12-48VDC. It has a power consumption of 9.5 W @ 24V DC @ 40 °C (104 °F) with maximum consumption of 15 W. It has a power dissipation of 15 Watts. A relay contact is integrated to the 1783-BMS06TGA which may be used to signal alarm. It has a contact rating of 1 A @ 30V DC or 0.5 A @ 48V DC.
Managed Ethernet switches are used for increasing the uptime of the communication network and to significantly reduce network traffic as each port may be configured to specifically communicate with a partner port with controlled data broadcast. This eliminates congestion and increases data transfer.
The 1783-BMS06TGA may be DIN rail mounted or directly installed to the enclosure subpanel. It does not require installation to a PLC rack or specialized mounting hardware.
The enclosure of the 1783-BMS06TGA switch is open-type and weighs 1.11 kilograms. The dimensions of the 1783-BMS06TGA switch are 74.8 x 129.5 x 116.7 millimeters. The environmental specifications for the 1783-BMS06TGA switch include a -40 to 60 degrees Celsius operating temperature range, storage temperature of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius storage temperature range, 5 to 95% relative humidity (non-condensing), a vibration rating of 2 G at 10 to 500 Hertz, an operating shock rating of 30 G, and a non-operating shock rating of 50 G.
To protect the 1783-BMS06TGA switch from excessively high temperatures it is recommended that a minimum of 50.8 millimeters spacing is maintained on the front, sides, top and bottom of the switch. The 1783-BMS06TGA switch runs on DC power and the input voltage range is from 12 to 48 Volts DC and the current consumption of the switch ranges from a minimum of 0.5 Amps to a maximum of 2 Amps. The maximum power consumption of the 1783-BMS06TGA switch is 15 Watts while the typical power consumption is 9.5 Watts at 24 Volts DC. The recommended wire for ground connections is 12 AWG stranded copper wire minimum. The recommended wire for alarm connection is 20 to 18 AWG solid or stranded twisted-pair copper. The recommended wire for DC power connections is 20 to 18 AWG stranded or solid copper wire.
