The Allen-Bradley 1783-ZMS24TA is part of the ArmorStratix 5700 Industrial Ethernet Switch product cluster. Industrial automation components tend to interact with this switch, which is placed as close possible to industrial field devices. This product has a built-in IP67-rated closure to protect it in harsh industrial environment conditions and make Ethernet communication safe where electronics are usually in danger of being corroded by dust, dampness, and water. Some field devices that are often connected to the 1783-ZMS24TA switch are transmitters, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), control panels and HMIs, sensors, frequency converters and I/O devices.

The 1783-ZMS24TA offers support for 24 ports (M12 D-code) with 10/100 Mbps, with the copper ports operating in full or half duplex mode. The switch uses Cisco Internet Operating System (IOS) technology; for simple and fast maintenance as well as switch replacement, a slot for an SD card is provided. This is an optional feature for creating backups but is strongly recommended. An M12/DB9 cable can be used to connect to the switch over a console port.

This industrial Ethernet switch incorporates an EtherNet/IP network interface that uses the CIP protocol for its application layer and TCP/UDP/IP for its transport and network layers; this interface can be approached via an Ethernet port over the IP address of the switch. The power consumption of this device is 12 Watts; power connectors can be applied for a single or dual power source of 24 Volts DC.
