The Allen-Bradley 1783-ZMS8T8E2TGP is an Industrial Ethernet Switch. It is part of the ArmorStratix 5700 extreme environments industrial switch series, intended for installations in harsh environments where its IP67 designed closure can show the best performance against dust, water and condensation. It provides a secure switching communication closer to the field devices and can be connected to network devices such as servers, routers, and other switches. Its ports are ready to communicate to any Ethernet-enabled industrial communication devices such as human machine interfaces (HMIs), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motor drives, sensors, and input/output extension modules.

The Cisco Internet Operating System (IOS) is responsible for network integration on this unit’s eighteen (18) ports. The structure of the switch ports is 8 PoE ports, 8 copper (M12 D-code) ports, and 2 copper (M12 X-code) ports, and their speeds are 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps, full-duplex or half-duplex. CIP Sync is available as part of a multicast traffic option; as part of a backup and maintenance free program, the switch uses a slot for an optional SD card, a Rockwell Automation SD card being strongly recommended. An M12 to DB9 cable can connect over a console port if needed.

The 1783-ZMS8T8E2TGP contains an industrial automation network EtherNet/IP network interface that uses Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) and TCP/UDP/IP for its transport and network layers.

A 24 Volt DC power supply can be supplied to the switch from one or two power sources, its power consumption being 17 Watts. Relays and alarm relays are installed and are designed to withstand 1A current and alarms for environmental, power supply, and port status conditions are triggered on this switch to can be used for further protection and maintenance activities. Open or closed contacts are available for alarms indication, but a connector for a separate PoE power supply is not available.

Switch Database Management (SDM) templates are used for system resources configuration in the switch thus providing specific features optimization, for example, a template for maximum system usage for some functions. The list of SDM templates available is as follows: Default, Lanbase Routing, Dual IPv4 and IPv6.
