The Allen-Bradley 2706-B23J16 messaging device comes with a 14.4 x 14.4 in. Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) screen with an adjustable brightness that can show up to 20 characters each on 2 lines. The characters can be English, International or Cyrillic and displayed in green, red, or amber. Messages on the VFD are readable from as far as 240 feet away. The 2706-B23J16 device also has 16 KB of RAM and 128 KB user application memory and flash memory for storing files. Its real-time clock has a replaceable battery and is Y2K compliant. The 2706-B23J16 messaging device can connect to other devices with its variety of ports and compliances. These include a serial ASCII protocol and point-to-point slave communications through the RS-232 ports and direct connection to SLC and PLC through the Channel 0 ports. The device can be programmed offline with the RS-232 auto-wakeup feature. The 2706-B23J16 runs on 85-264V AC and can recover from a power failure even during message editing. It has a more streamlined design than previous Allen-Bradley messaging devices. Its mounting studs are .63 inches long instead of .5 inches, it measures 3 inches rather than 4.5 inches in depth, and its weight has been halved from 7.3 to 3.7 lbs.
