The Allen-Bradley 2707-L8P2 is a DTAM Plus operator interface module. This module is used to directly interface with Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) such as the PLC5 and SLC 500 series. This module provided users, programmers and operators the capability to access data, troubleshoot and manipulate parameters of the PLC.
Through the embedded keypad composed of 25 keys, user interaction is permitted. In addition, the embedded keys are provided with a LED indicator that energizes to depict existence of error. The 2707-L8P2 has embedded One (1) RS232 / RS485 communication port that supports point-to-point and multi-drop communication. Optional Remote I/O (RIO) interface may be installed to enable RIO connectivity. This interface module has embedded 8K user memory and supports configuration of up to 244 screens of data. It also supports implementing Recipe function, enabling modification of block. Up to a maximum of 10 non-sequential register per address downloads is permitted using this function.
The 2707-L8P2 is provided with an Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) that is capable of displaying Four (4) lines of data with each line supporting up to 20 Characters. This display component is installed with a LED backlight or a Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD).
At the back of this module, power terminals, protective fuses, communication ports and Six (6) DIP switches are embedded. The Dip switches are used selects the operating settings of the interface module. Operating settings include Upload and Enable, Communication Port Selection, Master Security Enable, Function Key Enable, Terminal Mode Enable and Comm Upload/Download Enable.
The embedded function keys contain individual LED indicators to indicate whether the unit is functioning properly. If a malfunction occurs, a yellow light will flash until an operator acknowledges the alarm. The 2707-L8P2 also features a recipe function on its screen that allows the user to write multiple controller addresses in a single operation. Data can be displayed on screen both in digits and graphical format, for the convenience of the operator. In addition to this, a 6-position DIP switch is provided at the back of the module which is accessible via a removable cover. This switch allows a user to select operating settings.
When installing the 2707-L8P2 operator interface panel unit, it is essential that it be mounted either on a panel or in an enclosure, in order to protect the module’s circuitry. While installing, a proper amount of space must be provided for ventilation to keep the device between the operating temperatures of 0 and 45 degrees Celsius. The unit is fixed using six self-locking nuts, tightened to no more than 8 to 10 pounds on an inch. The power supply to the unit is in the range of 85 to 265 Volts AC with a refresh rate of 47 to 440 Hertz or 110 to 300 Volts DC. While supplying power to the device, AWG #16 or #14 stranded wires must be used. Correct grounding of the unit is also important, so as not to lead to noises due to electromagnetic interference. The 2707-L8P2, like other DTAM Plus devices, comes with default DH-485 application file.
