The PanelView 1400E operator terminal is one of Allen-Bradley’s human-machine interfaces (HMIs) that provides a low-cost yet powerful and flexible interface solution that allows the operators to interact with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in a wide variety of industrial applications. It is a compact and easy-to-install terminal that is designed for mounting in any panel cutout or for mounting in a 19-inch rack with the appropriate adapter kit. Some of the options for connecting the PanelView 1400E operator terminal to a machine’s PLC controller are the Allen-Bradley remote I/O modules and the Allen-Bradley 1771 Remote I/O link, the Data Highway Plus (DH+) network protocol, or the ControlNet link (available as an optional feature).

The operators can see important information displayed in a digital format or displayed in graphs and charts. They can also view and manage alarms, activate and deactivate specific functions of the application process, or monitor the status of diverse types of variables in their applications. There are 256 fixed graphics colors available for screen objects, and features like blinking buttons or underlined text make the terminal more user-friendly. The total discrete I/O that it is possible to implement in the PanelView 1400E operator terminal are 64 racks × 8 words per rack × 16 bits per word of input and output bits, or 64 × 8 PLC input words and 64 × 8 PLC output words.
