The Allen-Bradley 2711-B5A16L1 is part of PanelView 550 standard operator terminals. This operator terminal is more commonly termed as Human Machine Interface (HMI) device that is typically flush-mounted to an enclosure. This HMI device is ideally installed in the field however, it may also be installed remotely from the control system. This device allows user and process operators to monitor and control machines and processes real-time and permits user interaction via the provided input interfaces.

The 2711-B5A16L1 features a 5.5-inch LCD screen with monochrome graphics. It has a viewing area of 120 x 60 mm (4.75 x 2.38 in.) with pixel resolution of 256 x 128. It can be used for simple graphic design without application of color-coded animation. User interface is provided by the embedded touchscreen and keypad interface which may be used alternately however, not recommended for simultaneous operation. The touchscreen interface is composed of 128 touch cells distributed in 16 columns x 8 rows with individual touch cell size of 16 x 16 pixels. The keypad interface is composed of numeric keys, navigation keys, confirmation buttons and fully-programmable function keys.

The 2711-B5A16L1 comes with Two (2) RS232 communication ports. One RS232 port supports Allen-Bradley’s DF1 protocol, used for point-to-point communication with partner controllers and other compatible devices. The secondary RS232 port supports printer communication for printing of alarm and events encountered by the system. This operator terminal is externally powered by a DC supply voltage with nominal value of 24VDC.

The 2711-B5A16L1 is a DC-powered terminal that runs on 24VDC nominal voltage supply. It can store up to 170 KB of data in its application runtime memory. The 2711-B5A16L1 terminal supports floating point files, a real-time clock, universal language, and ASCII input and displays, and it is capable of remote downloading with a network or a gateway connection. The 2711-B5A16L1 HMI terminal is rated for indoor use only and it can be protected inside a NEMA Type 12, 13, or 4X indoor-rated enclosure. This terminal is certified by the C-tick, CE, Class I Division 2, Class I Zone 2, Class II Division 2, Class III Division 1, CUL, and UL specifications for safe operation in a variety of industrial environments in several countries.
