It is primarily used to enable operator or plant personnel to interact with industrial machines or processes in real-time. Control and measuring points of the process are represented using static and dynamic object animations. This operator terminal accepts highly-customized process mimic which may exactly represent the arrangement and orientation of the instruments or using group displays.

The 2711-T9C3 has a 9-inch Color Active Matrix TFT display. It has a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and display area of 171 x 130 millimeters (6.73 x 5.12 inches). The display supports contrast and brightness adjustment to allow for better view of the terminal’s visualization. Control is implemented through the embedded touch sensitive cells. Individual cell size measures 26 x 30 pixels, totaling up to 384 cells distributed in 24 columns x 16 rows. The touch cells and the screen can be calibrated by accessing the terminal’s native configuration environment to ensure that the proper object is animated when pressed accordingly.

For communication, the 2711-T9C3 has one (1) DH-485 communication port. This communication protocol supports multi-node communication, allowing the operator terminal to communicate with multiple controllers at once. Additionally, the 2711-T9C3 has one (1) RS-232 communication interface for direct communication to alarm and event printers.
