The GE Series 90-70 IC697ACC701 battery is a lithium battery that comes as an accessory that is made to be used with the GE IC697CPU731 CPU. Both the battery and the CPU have been manufactured and designed by the GE Fanuc Automation. The main purpose of this battery is to maintain the clock and the calendar of the CPU. Without this battery in the CPU, some programming and some activities may not be available due to the lack of an up-to-date and accurate calendar and real-time clock, especially if this CPU is performing data transfers to different equipment. The GE Fanuc Automation IC697ACC701 lithium battery is also used to send energy to the small electronic parts of the CPU motherboard, and the mainboard or BIOS of the CPU. If a low battery is detected during power-up diagnosis, the "Module OK" LED located on top of the CPU will turn off.
Another important use of the Series 90-70 GE Fanuc Automation IC697ACC701 lithium battery is to maintain the user memory when the power has been removed. This new battery needs to be installed before replacing the old one, to avoid data loss. The lithium battery package includes 2 units that are both used in one CPU. The shelf life of the battery is of 10 years at approximately 20 degrees Celsius. It has memory retention time of 6 months nominal without using any power source. The GE Fanuc Automation IC697ACC701 lithium battery has been designed to support the VME Standard C1. This battery only works when the CPU is power-less, and that is why it can last for up to 10 years.
