The GE Fanuc IC697BEM735 remote I/O scanner is an intelligent I/O scanner module from the GE IC697 Series 90-70 PLC system. This module is designed to interface standard IC697 I/O modules and other analog expander modules, PCMs, and Bus transmitters to an IC66 Bus system. The IC697BEM735 remote I/O scanner has a simple design consisting of a single circuit board covered with a hinged transparent door the serves as a faceplate. It has 3 LED indicators that illuminate through the transparent hinged door, and on rear-end of the scanner module is a 9-pin male D-Type connector, a 15-pin female D-Type RS-422/485 serial connector, and 16 removable IC66 Bus terminals. The IC697BEM735 remote I/O scanner is configured by using either an IC66 Genius handheld monitor or with an MS-DOS programming software configuration function.

The GE IC697BEM735 remote I/O scanner can support connections at up to 7,500 feet (2,275 meters) away from a host PLC, and it can also support a mix of discrete and analog inputs and outputs at up to a total of 1024 discrete inputs/outputs, or 64 analog inputs/outputs. Aside from the standard IC697 PLC system, the IC697BEM735 remote I/O scanner module also supports a wide variety of IC66 host devices such as the QBIM, PCIM, Host PC with PCIM, IC660 PLCs, IC655 PLCs, or third-party GENI-based interface devices. A connection of the remote I/O scanner s(such as the IC697BEM735 or IC697BEM733 scanners) and I/O modules make up the remote drop on the IC66 bus. A single IC66 bus can accommodate up to 30 remote drops, and a single remote drop can consist of up to 8 devices with a 5-slot IC697 rack, a 9-slot IC697 rack, or a mixture of both over a maximum distance of 15 meters.
