The Q172EXS2 from Mitsubishi’s Melsec-Q series is an interface module designed specifically for serial absolute synchronous encoders. This unit can accommodate up to two modules, enabling expanded connectivity. It is compatible with the Q170ENC encoder and operates using an absolute ABS data detection method, ensuring precise position tracking. Data is transmitted through serial communications at a rate of 2.5 Mbps, allowing for efficient information flow.

For maximum performance, the Q172EXS2 supports a cable length of up to 50 meters, providing flexibility in installation setups. The unit also features two input points designated for tracking enable inputs and utilizes a sink/source photocoupler isolation method for effective input management. The rated input voltage is set at 12 V DC with a current of 2 mA and at 24 V DC with a current of 4 mA.

The operational voltage range for this module is between 10.2 V DC and 26.4 V DC, ensuring stable function even in varying electrical conditions, with a ripple ratio of 5 % or less. The response times for ON to OFF and OFF to ON transitions are recorded at 0.6 ms and 1 ms, respectively, highlighting swift operational capabilities. The module does not contain memory for data exchange and fulfills a total of 32 occupied I/O points in allocation for intelligent function modules.
