The Allen-Bradley 1336-MOD-KB050 is a Dynamic Braking Unit. This module is used with the adjustable Frequency AC Drives, specifically 1336/1336VT FORCE, PLUS, PLUS II, and IMPACT with drive ratings of B040 - B060. Dynamic braking units, such as the 1336-MOD-KB050 is composed of braking resistors that connects and disconnects to the DC bus automatically. It is mainly used to implement immediate braking of motor and prevent excess voltage from returning to the DC bus that may cause bus overvoltage which is one of the common cause of tripping of the partner adjustable frequency AC drive. This is accomplished with the braking unit consuming the excess power and dissipatating this in the form of heat. Additionally, this dynamic brake unit is capable of continuously monitor the DC bus. As soon as a sharp rise in the bus voltage is detected, the 1336-MOD-KB050 dynamic brake turns on, initializing power dissipation. When bus voltage has returned within the normal configured limit, the resistors contained within the braking unit are automatically disconnected. The 1336-MOD-KB050 has a voltage rating of 380VAC / 415 VAC / 460 VAC and comes with NEMA Type 1 (IP20). It comes with a brake ON light that turns ON when the unit is active. Being a 050 rated drive, it comes with an additional DC Power light, which becomes active when the DC Bus voltage has increased more than 40 VDC. Under normal operations, the 1336-MOD-KB050 shall not be active when the motor is stopped; the motor is accelerating and when the motor is at speed without an Overhauling load.

The Allen-Bradley 1336-MOD-KB050 is a dynamic braking option measuring 16 x 24 x 9.75 inches and weighing 33.8 kg or 75 lbs. and it is used for 1336/1336VT FORCE, PLUS, PLUS II, and IMPACT adjustable frequency drives. Its voltage rating is 380/415/460V AC, 50 HP, and 3750 W and it has a brake kit code drive ratings 40 to 60. This drive also has a dynamic brake resistor with 10.5 Ω of resistance and 7000 W of average Wattage dissipation. The 1336-MOD-KB050 comes with a NEMA Type 1 enclosure, which is wired to a compatible drive, built-in fans, a "brake on" light to determine if the chopper module is in operation or chopping, and a DC power light indicating when the dynamic brake module has received DC power. The input power of the fan of this dynamic brake module is 600 mA and it is 50 mA for the enable signal. This dynamic brake module should not be placed in a location where there is hazardous or corrosive dust, gas, or vapor in the atmosphere. The typical braking torque of the 1336-MOD-KB050 Dynamic Brake Module is 100% torque for 20 seconds, while its typical duty cycle torque is 20% torque. Operators can use this dynamic brake module at an altitude of up to 1000 m without it derating. The 1336-MOD-KB050 can operate at temperatures ranging from -10 °. C to 50 deg. C and at 5 to 95% non-condensing relative humidity.
