Analog Speed Follower is the ideal speed control mode of most drives as it allows a more flexible speed control capability allowing the drive to be dynamically modulated without changing pre-defined speed settings. Through wiring of an External Analog Potentiometer or Analog Input signal, speed reference is established any by definition of Parameter 58 that is the internal frequency, the drive may use any of the Two (2) analog signal sources. It is important to consider that only One (1) signal reference may be used at a time. Additionally, do not connect the potentiometer or analog input at the same time as it could result to unwanted speed control.

Speed reference is wired to the Terminal TB3 or the Control I/O wiring. It is recommended to use a shielded cable and wires laid-out inside a metal conduit. It is also advised not to exceed 15 meters of I/O wiring and ensure that the common terminal of TB3 is well connected to the assigned earth ground. A particular cable is recommended, such as the Belden 8760 however, any equivalent cable may be used with specifications of 18 AWG, Twisted pair, shielded or 3 conductor wire. The same control I/O terminal also houses other inputs such as the Reverse, Start and Stop signals as well as the single programmable input. It also has a Form C contact output which may be assigned to represent the drive’s status. The Allen-Bradley 160-BA04NSF1 is a three-phase AC-powered Smart Speed Controller (SSC) that is fan-cooled and has an analog signal follower control feature. It also has an enclosure rating of IP20, which is an open enclosure which allows the SSC to be installed on a flat, vertical, and even surface using either a 35mm DIN rail or 4.5 mm or smaller mounting screws. This drive must be installed in a location where the environment does not contain any corrosive or explosive substances. Installed on this SSC are standard 160 Series features, including 3 terminal blocks for the controller’s line power, motor, and control wiring and LED status indicators located in the front of the controller.
