The 160S-AA03PPS1 is a Variable Speed Drive from Allen-Bradley’s 160 SSC family. This bulletin 160 product is connected to a 200 to 240 Volt AC 1-phase voltage with an input current of 6.2A (the recommended input protection fuse to be used is 10A). The 160S-AA03PPS1 power rating is 0.55kW (0.75HP) and its output current rating is 3.0A. The output frequency of this variable speed drive is programmable from 0 to 240 Hertz; the 160S-AA03PPS1 comes configured as a preset speed device and it is IP20 rated (chassis mountable with external heatsink). The externally connected heatsink reduces overall power radiation and significantly reduces enclosure size. The 160S-AA03PPS1 has a ready/fault panel as an interface for users. It signals to the operator whether the drive is in the ready state or whether there is a fault condition present. This is a low-cost solution for applications where parameter monitoring and adjustments are not needed. This model has also a number of features, including hinged finger guards on upper and lower connectors, DC bus test points, cooling fan on the lower side, and a DIN rail latch.

This drive does have programmable motor protection (overload) at around 200% for 30 Seconds or 150% for 60 Seconds. Its integrated protection mechanisms protect it against excessive temperature (a heatsink temperature greater than 95 degrees Celsius), over/under voltage, overcurrent, ground short, and output short-circuit.  The 160S-AA03PPS1 variable speed drive has dimensions of 152 x 80 x 165 millimeters (6.00 x 3.15 x 6.51 inches). This product’s weight is around 0.94 kilograms (2.07 pounds) and its ideal ambient temperature range for operation is 0 to 50 degrees Celsius. Use a 75°C wire 0.75-4mm2 (12 – 18 AWG) type wire for the module’s wiring. The following optional drive features can be ordered separately for this module: a dynamic brake module, a line filter module, a program keypad module, a DeviceNet communication module, the RS232 communication module, a 24 Volt DC interface module, and a capacitor module.
