The Allen-Bradley 4100-232 is an IMS Class Compact Motion Controller. This controller is a stand-alone device with Two (2) Axes of motion control and comes with a dedicated RS232 / RS485 combo port. This port may be configured for DH485 communication for communication with Human Machine Interface (HMI) devices. The 4100-232 supports direct connection of up to Eight (8) Flex I/O modules of any combination, not exceeding 128 Discrete I/O points.
Accomplished user program is downloaded though the provided communication interface which is then installed to the controller’s non-volatile, write-protected battery backed RAM. This controller supports configuration of up to 13,000 master cam point and 13,000 slave cam points as well as 2000 user definable variables stored in 64-bit floating point data.
This controller is powered by an input supply voltage of 90 – 132 or 175 – 264 Volts AC with frequency range of 47 – 63 Hz along a maximum input current of 3 Amperes. While the input and output power input requirements is 5 – 40 Volts DC range, with nominal value of 24 Volts DC and maximum current of 3 Amperes. Protective fuses are installed with this device, specifically, a 3A Slow Blow for ethe power and I/O input.
Compatible encoder for use with the 4100-232 is a Differential, TTL-level (5V DC) line driver outputs, with or without marker. The type of encoder input available to this device is Incremental AB quadrature encoder with optical isolation, differential with marker channel while the available encoder interface to this device an AM26LS32 or equivalent.
The 4100-232 Compact Class Motion Controller is connected to a flex I/O module for discrete I/O analog input and output features. Up to 8 flex I/O modules can be connected to the 4100-232 to produce a total of 128 discrete I/O points. The 4100-232 has two optically-isolated encoder inputs with an encoder frequency of 4MHz, an input impedance of 7k? per inputs, and an encoder power rating of 5 Volts DC at 1 Amps. The application programming of the 4100-232 is done via the Graphics Motion controller Language (GML) which has over 100 commands for customization. The preprogrammed application parameter is downloaded to the 4100-232 via the RS-232C serial communication port to its cache memory or the protected battery-backed Random Access Memory. It has electronic gearing and CAM features. The CAM features have 13,000 master and 13,000 slave cam motion profiles and the 4100-232 has about 2000 defined user-variables stored in 64-bit floating point numbers. It has an approximate shipping weight of 7.7 kilograms (16.90 pounds) and dimensions of 355.6 x 279.4 x 165.1 millimeters (14 x 11 x 6.50 inches).
