The Allen-Bradley 22C-D105A103 is an Adjustable Frequency AC drive from the PowerFlex 400 product series. This drive is generally known as a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), Variable Speed Drive (VSD), and frequency inverter. Being part of the PowerFlex 400m this drive mainly focuses on speed control of AC motors as it is capable of implementing Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) and Volts / Hertz (V/Hz) control.

The 22C-D105A103 is especially designed for industrial fan and pump applications. Additionally, it may also be used to drive Dampers in Heating, Ventillation and Air-conditioning (HVAC) applications and Building Management systems (BMS). Aside from the mentioned speed control, this drive has a built-in Proportional + Integral + Derivative (PID) controller, enabling the drive to perform controller-like functions, eliminating the need of an external controller.

The 22C- D2105A103 is supplied with a variety of integrated input and output channels. It features Three (3) semi-programmable and Four(4) Fully programmable sink / source inputs which may be assigned for motor Start / Stop / Forward / Reverse / Jog commands; Two (2) Form C contacts and One (1) optocoupler output allowing the drive to provide motor feedback and status; One (1) Unipolar –10…10V or One (1) bipolar 0…10V or 4…20 mA analog inputs for motor speed reference and Two (2) 0-10VDC; 0-20mA analog outputs for speed feedback. The 22C- D2105A103 also comes with a Human Interface Module (HIM) component for local operation, configuration and maintenance of the drive. It has a built-in RS485 communication interface.

The 22C-D105A103 has a bus overvoltage trip of 810 Volts and a bus Undervoltage Trip of 390 Volts, with a phase-to-ground ground fault trip (on the drive output) and a phase-to-phase short circuit trip (on the drive output). It can withstand altitudes of 1000 meters or 3300 feet without derating. With a rating of IP30 and a NEMA/UL Type 1, the surrounding air cannot exceed a maximum of 45 degrees Celsius or 113 degrees Fahrenheit, and it should not drop below -10 degrees Celsius or 14 degrees Fahrenheit. It can be stored between -40 and 85 degrees Celsius or -40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit with a non-condensing relative humidity of 5% to 95%. Do not store or install this module in an ambient atmosphere that may contain corrosive gases, excessive dust, or dangerous vapors. The 22C-D105A103 has a 15 g peak operating shock for 11 milliseconds (give or take 1 second) with an operation vibration of 1 g peak at 5 to 2000 Hertz. The drive is the fan and pumpâ type of drive that uses a fan as its cooling method, with a (3-phase) input voltage of 480 Volts AC and an output voltage of 460 Volts. This unit tolerates a voltage of plus or minus 10%. It has a 97.5% rated efficiency and a frequency tolerance of 48 to 63 Hertz. Its multiple stop modes are the ramp, DC-brake, coast, ramp-to-hold, and S-curve, and they are all programmable. Both its acceleration and deceleration times can be programmed anywhere between 0 and 600 seconds, in 0.1-second increments. It has 110% overload capability for up to 1 minute with the Sinusoidal PWM Volts per Hertz control. This unit has 3 semi-programmable and 4 fully programmable digital control inputs, and 1 isolated (-10 to 10 Volts or 4 to 20 mA) and 1 non-isolated (0 to 10 Volts or 1 to 20 mA) analog control input. Its control outputs are as follows: 2 programmable Form C relay outputs and 6 optional programmable Form A relay outputs, 1 programmable opto output, and 2 non-isolated (0 to 10 Volts or 4 to 20 mA) analog outputs.
