20-COMM-C

The Allen-Bradley 20-COMM-C is a ControlNet communication adapter that made especially for adjustable frequency AC drives and motor controllers to enable ControlNet connectivity. This communication adapter is compatible for use with any PowerFlex 700 class drives particularly PowerFlex 70, PowerFlex 700, PowerFlex 700H, PowerFlex 700S, PowerFlex 700L, PowerFlex 750. Additionally, it may also be used with SMC Flex and SMC-50 smart motor controllers. Lastly, it also supports communication with any Drive Peripheral Interface (DPI) external communication kits.

The 20-COMM-C main interface include A DPI connector that is made of a 20-pin, single-row shrouded male header with an Internal Interface cable already connected to the designated terminal on the drive. It also ha Two (2) ControlNet ports, labeled Channel A and Channel B. Channel B is intended for redundant operation. Aside from these interface, the 20-COMM-C has built-in status indicators composed of Four (4) LED lights intended for DPI, adapter, and network connection indication. It also has a a set of Node Address Switch for setting of the adapter’s node address.

The 20-COMM-C supports ControlNet protocol with a fixed data rate of 5 Mbps. The 20-COMM-C remain a coax based ControlNet adapter. It supports simultaneous Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) messaging wherein up to 20 connections is supported. It also supports unlimited input-only I/O connections and any of connection types such as 1 exclusive-owner I/O connection; Up to 3 redundant-owner I/O connections and 1 listen-only I/O connection. The supported drive protocol is DPI with data rate of 125 kbps or 500 kbps.

This component is used primarily for network communication and it is intended for industrial drives from the PowerFlex series (7-Class). The 20-COMM-C adapter is a Series B adapter with a coaxial BNC connector. Besides that, this adapter can be used with many other drives from the PowerFlex 750 series and it is compatible with a DPI external comms kit and an optional I/O board. The 20-COMM-C adapter provides functionalities such as the node address switch, status indicators, parameter-configured I/O, complete access to any PowerFlex drive or peripheral device connected on the same network, and the user-defined fault resolving procedures. The adapter comes with the interface cables needed for connection with the drive and installation instructions. When combining the 20-COMM-C adapter with a PowerFlex 750 drive, an optional communication carrier card (20-750-20COMM/20-750-20COMM-F1) should be used. The adapter's data transfer rate is 5 megabits per second and it allows for up to 20 simultaneous CIP messaging connections. Besides that, the 20-COMM-C adapter supports unlimited input-only I/O connections and different connection types. The requested packet interval (RPI) of the adapter is a minimum of 5 milliseconds while its packet rate is up to 400 total I/O packets per second. The data rates of the supported drive are 125 kilobytes per second or 500 kilobytes per second. In regard to the physical characteristics of the 20-COMM-C adapter, it has the following dimensions: 16 x 103 x 80 millimeters (0.62 x 4 x 3.12 inches). In addition to that, the weight of the adapter is only 85 grams (3 ounces). The adapter is built in accordance with all the applicable UL, CE, cUL, and CTick standards.
