The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 20AD040A3AYNADNN PowerFlex 70 drive is a variable speed motor controller. The controller is sensitive to electrostatic discharge which is capable of damaging some internal components of the 20AD040A3AYNADNN or which can cause malfunctioning. The controller, as with other PowerFlex 70 drives, has a metal oxide varistor (MOV) and common mode capacitors referenced to the ground. When the drive is used in an ungrounded system where the voltage is capable of exceeding 125% of its rated voltage, the use of an isolation transformer is recommended. The 20AD040A3AYNADNN supports an inbuilt DeviceNet port which allows the drive to be interfaced with other devices on the industrial floor while avoiding expensive hard-wiring but providing device-level diagnostics. Additionally, a DeviceNet network, unlike the other types of networks used on the industrial floor, supports a wider range of devices and it improves the general system performance.

The 20AD040A3AYNADNN uses plug-in style jumpers to select functions such as solid and non-solid ground. Note that PowerFlex drives are capable of causing radio frequency interference in residential places. These drives, including the 20AD040A3AYNADNN, can generate conducted low-frequency disturbances on the AC supply system. The Allen-Bradley 20AD040A3AYNADNN operates within the 400 Volts AC voltage class. The drive conforms to the electromagnetic compatibility and low-voltage directive 89/336/EEC and 73/23/EEC respectively. The troubleshooting and monitoring of the 20AD040A3AYNADNN are done by using the LCD which also accommodates a full-fledged keypad to adjust the parameters as required. The LCD and the keypad is a single unit. Removing the human-machine interface (HMI) module is bound to cause a fault on the drive if the HMI is the only programming and monitoring device connected to it.
