The Allen-Bradley 1398-PDM-030 is an Ultra Plus Positioning Drive Module (PDM). This drive module is a microprocessor-based drive controller that is used for implementing position and motion control. This drive module features 100-240 VAC, 1-Phase. It delivers a Continuous Output Power of 3 kW and continuous output current / phase of 15 Amperes.
This drive module also comes with Two (2) serial interface that supports RS232 / RS422 communication standard. Aside from a programming workstation, an optional Human Interface Module (HIM) such as 1398-HMI-002 and 1398-HMI-003 may be communicated through this port using 9101-2205 serial communication cable.
This drive module is compatible for use with H-Series, F-Series and N-Series permanent magnet synchronous motors. These motors typically do not come with a built-in shaft seal. To meet a specific protection such as IP66, use an Allen-Bradley recommended shaft seal to prevent entry of process material and environmental contaminants to the internal components of the partner motor.
Other output capabilities of this drive module include peak output current per phase of 30 Amperes, Continuous shunt power of 50 Watts, Peak Shunt power of 4.5 kW, Continuous Shunt external of 2.4 kW and Peak Shunt external of 6 kW. The controllers used for the advanced microprocessor technology control both velocity and position with the single processor. This eliminates the need for an analog interface. The control loops and velocity are digitally closed, and the gain parameters are stored in the form of numbers, giving repeatable results from one controller to another. The primary features of the 1398-PDM-030 include digital and analog I/O connections, internal and external shunts, and screw terminal connections. It weighs 11 lb. and runs on 115-240V AC nominal at 50-60 Hz. Its internal continuous shunt power dissipation is 50W (200W with an external resistor), and its internal peak shunt power is 4.5 kW (6 kW with an external resistor). The 1398-PDM-030 can be a distributed motion control element or a standalone programmable motion controller integrated with the host computer using GML for a flexible automation system. The 1398-PDM-030 drive consists of a module to control velocity and power the motor and it has a personality module to plug into the machine and match the positioning controlled by the motor. Its brushless motor receives feedback from the integral optical encoder.
