The 9101-2186 Ultra Plus Positioning Drive Module by Allen-Bradley is a single-axis digital and positioning drive which provides microprocessor-based high-performance velocity control and programmable positioning in a single compact and cost-effective unit. Unlike most drives, the 9101-2186 combines both drive control and positioning control in a single processing package, thereby eliminating the need for an analog interface. The drive has an input line voltage range of 115 to 240V AC (single-phase) at 50-60Hz, with a peak output current of 20A, and an output power of 2kW. The drive has a factory built-in shunt regulator, with 4.5kW peak power and in applications that require higher power dissipation, and an external shunt kit (25 Ohms, 200W or 18 Ohms, 900W) with a peak power of 6000W, is connected to it. The 9101-2186 has an integral power supply with single-phase output power, and it also has a non-volatile memory which stores information for customizing the drive for any application, and it stores set parameters to match both the encoder feedback device and the drive. The drive, like every drive in the PDM series, has a microprocessor, with a 20 MHz internal clock, connected to the memory unit and with an access time of 0.016s.
The 9101-2186 uses the incremental encoder with 750 KHz encoder input frequency, for motor feedback, and it also has high-performance Analog and Digital I/O with scan functions. The 9101-2186 has velocity and positioning loop control, which are both digital closed for consistent results, and it utilizes 4-function math and logic functions for high-performance control. The drive also has an optional Operator terminal with a 4-line x 20-character vacuum fluorescent display and a sealed membrane keypad with tactile feedback, which allows for easy and convenient access to drive’s status, program variables, the control function, and message display. The 9101-2186 communicates with a PC or an operator terminal with 2 RS-232/RS-422 serial communication ports, with selectable 1200 to 19,200 baud rates, and with up to 63 node addresses. The drive is designed to operate at a temperature between 0 and 50 °C, without de-rating, and it is stored at a temperature range of -40 to 80 °C. The drive weighs approximately 5Kg, and it has shipping dimensions of 349.3mm x 111.8mm x 226.8mm.
