The Allen-Bradley 150-C85NBD is part of the Bulletin 150 of Smart Motor Controllers. This motor controller is specifically an SMC-3 motor controller that provides a variety of control mode for efficient control of motor during start-up, shutdown and idle operation.

This motor controller has a line Voltage of 200-480VAC and control Voltage of 100-240VAC. It delivers maximum continuous current of 85.0 A and output power ratings such as 25 Hp for 200VAC; 30 HP for 230VAC and 60 HP for 460 VAC when operated as line controller. When operated as Delta controller, the maximum continuous output current is 147.0 A, maximum output power of 40 Hp for 200VAC; 50 Hp for 230VAC and 100 Hp for 460.

The Allen-Bradley 150-C85NBD mainly features a microprocessor controlled soft-starting which is internally composed of six silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCRs)wherein Two SCRs are installed per phase for variation of the conduction period and control voltage. Control modes supported by the 150-C85NBD are Soft Start, Kickstart, Current Limit, Coast, and Soft Stop. SMC-3 smart motor controllers such as 150-C85NBD are also designed with a compact footprint, secure and simplified setup and integrated bypass. For enhancement of the 150-C85NBD’s functionalities, accessory components may be added to this motor controller.

The 150-C85NBD has Selectable Start Times such as 2, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 s, Selectable Initial Torque of 15%, 25%, 35%, and 65% of locked rotor torque, Selectable Current Limit of 150%, 250%, 350%, and 450% of full load current, Selectable Kick Start of 0, 0.5, 1.0, or 1.5 s, Selectable Soft Stop of Off, 100%, 200%, or 300% of the start time setting when wired and Selectable Overload Trip Class of 10, 15, or 20.

Its power circuit has an operating voltage range of 200 to 480 Volts AC at 50 to 60 Hertz with an 85A input rating and it offers a 600 Volt AC voltage insulation, 2, 200 Volt AC di-electric withstands, 6KV impulse voltage, 1400V repetitive peak voltage, and 1000V µs DV/DT protection, with Category III-level over-voltage protection. The 150-C85NBD has a control circuit with 100 to 240 Volts AC operational control voltage which also offers 1500 Volts AC di-electric withstand, 250 Volts AC insulation voltage, and 2.5KV impulse voltage at 50 to 60 Hertz. it has a 250 Volts AC auxiliary contact with 250 Volts insulation and an electromagnetic control circuit with a single 1A, 240 Volts AC normally-open relay contact.

The controller has a maximum power dissipation of 82 Watts at 28.3 to 85 A when operational and it is built to operate in a temperature margin of -5 to 55 degrees Celsius at a relative humidity of 5 to 95% without condensation. The 150-C85NBD has an open enclosure with an IP2X rating for use in an environment with a pollution level of degree 2, and it meets the UL and CSA standard compliance. It has 15G and 1G of operational resistance to shock and vibration respectively, and it is built for installation at an altitude of 2000 meters.
